Tortilla Review at Angel, Islington

Name: Tortilla

Type: Mexican Cuisine

Where: 13 Islington High Street, N1 9lQ

Nearest tube: Angel

Price: Weekday lunchtime special of a medium burrito with re-fillable soft drink for £5

RATING: ££££

Something of a gem among Angel’s various chains. This mexican chain specializes in burritos. And large burritos at that, the medium is a hearty size while a large burrito is about the size of your average guinea-pig. For our favourite price (that’s £5 btw) you can get a medium burrito and re-fillable soft drink. With all the fillings ready you can watch your burrito come together before your eyes without any wait (other than the likely lunchtime rush queue). Questions are fired at you in quick succession by the friendly staff.

“Spanish or Lemon?” “Peppers? Beans? Onions?” “Pork? Chicken? Beef?” “Sour Cream? Guacemole? (50p extra FYI) Cheese? Lettuce?” “Salsa? Mild? Medium? Hot?”

Once you make it through the quick fire rounds and cough up a reasonable five quid you can sit in on wooden benches or takeaway. Perks of eating in include watching your companions and strangers try to fit their mouths round these massive wraps.

Highlights: Strong flavours combined with generous portions make a satisfying feed.

Problems. Joe did find a small bit of chicken bone in his.

CHEAPO OPTION

If you want to spend pretty much zilch you can get some tortilla chips with a shot of overly oniony guacemole for £1.50.
